Has put in mind an interview I heard with Sting and his surprise that Every Breath You Take is used so much at weddings, given its rather dark lyrics re jealousy and obsession
So excited to see Figaro at Covent Garden in a few weeks! I listened to it when I wrote my first rom com, particularly as background for scenes when there was a lot of banter and bickering - it was a good reminder to keep things light!
And Wagner is the master of gorgeous music paired with batshit plots. I listen to the Act 1 overture from Lohengrin when I’m having a rough day and just need something beautiful.
Loved this read. I hadn’t realised the background to The Marriage of Figaro. It reminds me of one of my favourite films, The Admirable Crichton. Both explore social class and the shifting balance of power, though they take those ideas in quite different directions in the end, by the sounds of it. V old film but I think you’d like it.

Ha! That’s so true. Never really thought how dark and kinda creepy that dong is 😳
what about Grieg's Wedding Day at Troldhaugen. That was what we had played at our wedding 34 years ago.
Absolutely! And what a great piece for a wedding :)

It’s such a good cast too! My rough-day Wagner choice is Meistersinger. A big lifter in my book x

Ooh I don’t know The Admirable Crichton. Movie night?
